Here you can read about my three hobbies: Wine, Cars, Boats
Jaguar E-type
- Type: Coupe V12 2+2
- Production year:1972
- Engine: V12 cylinder
- Miles: Original 31,000 miles
- Automatic, Air Condition
This is my E-type Jaguar. It was always my dream, when I was young, once to drive a car like this. Now I fulfilled my dream and bought this XKE (this is the type definition here in USA) I found the car at a Classic Car dealer in St.Louis. It has only 2 pre-owner and original 31,000 miles. The car stood in a garage for almost 25 years and is in very good original condition. No rust and first paint. The V12 cylinder is an incredible sound. Very smooth and lots of power. It's an Series III car, 2 years before they stopped production. 2+2 means that this type has two "child" seats in the back - that was the a prerequisite from my family....

Soon after we moved from Germany we met Frank and Rosemarie. Frank is in love with wine and we had a lot to talk about, since Sheila and myself joined a wine club back in Germany for more than 10 years. We had a lot of fun together and tasted Frank's wine. Frank is home wine maker since over 15 years and he encouraged me to start wine making myself.
It's a wonderful hobby. It's like your own baby, which you have to watch carefully every day. Anyway, buying the barrel was the first step - but the easiest too. It started that the wine came when I was back in Germany on a business trip. But Frank was always there to help and I have to thank him a lot. Without him I wouldn't be, where I am today with close to 300 bottles of nice and smooth Cabernet/Merlot.
The most enjoyable task it the tasting and racking of the wine. It's always a surprise to see the wine growing in the barrel. On May 13th, 2000 after 3 rackings Frank, Marc and myself corked 298 bottles, which are now stored in my air conditioned "Wine Shed", the only room of our house and the entire neighborhood.
Our Speed boat
- Type: Bayliner - Capri
- Production year: 1999
- Engine: Mercruser V8 - 225 horsepower
- Length: 20,5 foot
- Maximum Speed: 55 miles/hour
- Seats 8 people
Since we have so much water around us and water sport is much fun, I decided last summer to by a boat. Normally I would have bought a sail boat. But this is to expensive here and costs too much in terms of maintenance, monthly fee for a boat slip etc. And you can rent a sail boat really cheap here in Newport Beach.
These were the reasons why I decided to by a Power boat, which is big enough to do water sports like skiing and the right size to be trailored to wherever we would like to go. After no success finding a used boat, I decided to by a new Bayliner. After some hurdles to deal was made and I got the boat soon. Until today we had a lot of fun with to boat dirving around in the harbour, on a trip to Catalina early in the moring. Or to the lake around L.A. Even longer trips are not a problem at all. We all have great fun.
